Great Glen B&B's incredible journey

I dont know what we were trying to prove but someone we met later told us we were completely nuts. Here we are at the start of our epic journey to the west coast. My sherpa's are loaded up to the max.
On and on we go on this never ending trail. Real wilderness with not a soul in sight.
At this point I was wishing I had wings or that the whole thing was a terrible nightmare
Seriously this was an epic 2 day journey that I would recommend to anyone daft enough for the challenge. The scenery was spectacular. UNFORGETTABLE.

Loch Ness Beastie tamed at last!!

Reports of a large puma like animal running wild around Loch Ness have been widely reported over the last few months. But here at Great Glen B&B we have the answer. We intend to coax the creature out of hiding with our very own beastie. As you can see Andrew (or Dr Doolittle as he is sometimes known) has a way with animals.

The Harvest Moon is on its way folks and it looks like Summer could be waving goodbye. Lets hope an Indian Summer awaits us.

On a brighter note Great Glen B&B has managed to gather in the harvest. This year we planted Strawberries, Gooseberries, Black currents and Red currents and our Cherry tree has produced lots of juicy cherries

Great Glen B&B are playing host to the Creche Out Girls & boy all this week during the Open Golf Tournament at Castle Stuart Inverness. I Can't even have 5 minutes in the sun without someone pinching my chair

5 minutes in the sun, thats all I ask after a busy morning at Great Glen B&B. But no Sasha has to go and pinch my chair. our cats have an annoying habit of always finding the warmest most comfortable spot. I suppose I will just have to carry on with my work.

Here's the latest on the lambs for all those who follow their progress. They are all getting very fat from an early warm spring. Smiley's lamb (pictured below) has become so tame he thinks he can get away with anything. We think he is too cute to put in the freezer what do you think?

Little monster caught on camera Loch Ness

Guests at Great Glen B&B were treated to a rare sight only a few days ago. The guest Laine Pearce was relaxing by our river frontage when this little monkey wandered by, oblivious to our Australian guests who promptly snapped a few pictures.

Pine Martens are rarely seen in such open terrain but this beautiful but sometimes vicious creature is native to the Highlands of Scotland. Learn more about this animal by following the link below.

We cant get any higher in the whole of the UK
Thats what Graham and Andrew of Great Glen B&B achieved on Monday the 25th April when they climbed Ben Nevis via the CMD ridge on a near perfect day for visibility. Andrew climbed ben Nevis as part of a fund raising effort for his trip to South Africa this summer. Graham just went along for the ride!!!
Ben Nevis is known as the cloudy mountain as most of the time the summit is covered in cloud, but not on the day we climbed it thank goodness

The family for 2011 is now complete, meet the 8 hooligans called lambs that are tearing round our fields at Great Glen B&B. The last one to be born (below) is Tilly's lamb which is now 4 days old. We invited the Loch Ness Monster up for a look but she declined.

"DONT TELL ANY ONE ELSE ABOUT THIS FANTASTIC PLACE" That is what our guests are saying as they are worried that we will be too busy and have no vacancies for when they want to return. So we will just have to take all our signage down and shut down our website, or is that a bit drastic?

Great Glen B&B's black sheep of the family

Its that time again folks, the aaaah factor comes round every spring when our new born lambs appear. This year Mary's lambs (above) have both been accepted by their mum so no bottle feeding this year hopefully. They are both boys and are already starting to be very mischievous.
Here's the black sheep of the family. Dez was the first to lamb this year 2 girls and as you can see one of them is jet black, every body say aaaaah.

We will keep you posted as we still have Jazz, Smiles and Tilly to lamb.

Visitors to Great Glen B&B (young & old) can now enjoy the woodland trail created by the river Enrick just in front of the house. There is a nature quiz for those who want to tax their brains just a little whilst on holiday and for those children who excel at the quiz a little prize at the end.

There is much wildlife to be seen along the walk but one must be very quiet to spot the rarest beastie of them all!

Graham realised a life's ambition whilst on holiday in Mauritius. He caught a Blue Marlin during a big game fishing trip. Graham said " I was thrilled to hook this magnificent fish and it put up a tremendous fight taking me 55 minutes to land. The only disappointment was that as we were bringing it up under the boat a monster shark took 2 bites out of my fish, I suppose I was lucky the shark had the taste for Marlin and not me!"

Fresh back from a relaxing holiday Sonia & Graham are ready to welcome guests for 2011.

Even though the winter has been tough at Great Glen B&B all the animals have survived and the ice has just melted.

The spring lambs are due in March so we will keep you posted on the new arrivals. The mums are all looking fat so we could have lots of twins this year.

Our orphan lamb is now on 3 feeds a day instead of 4, a great relief to the weary owners Sonia & Graham. Grass is fast becoming more interesting than the bottle/teat.

Great Glen B&B aim to install Solar and ground/air source heating by the end of the year

This follows a day at the All Energy conference in Aberdeen which Graham & Sonia attended taking time out of their busy schedule.

Graham who intends to do some of the work himself as a qualified heating engineer said " The All Energy conference was a real eye opener and we cant wait to get started on the project." Sonia ,the driving force behind the business said that although there was an awful amount of red tape and form filling the grants and rebates certainly made it very attractive proposition.

Minnie (as named by one of our guests children) has been abandoned by her mother Mary and is now being bottle fed by Sonia and family. She was born on the 20th and try as we might for 2 days her mother wants nothing to do with her. At the moment we have Smiley keeping her company whilst Mary is out and about with her other lamb. Great Glen B&B have now 7 lambs running wild around the place. Irma has a boy, then Dez had twins one of each, Jaz was next with 2 boys and finally Mary had twins 2 girls one of which is poor Minnie. We will keep you posted on her progress.

Great Glen B&B's new river inhabitants. No not baby nessies

Great News for three days now these beautiful creatures have been spending time in our river opposite the house. These occasional visitors are a pair of Goosanders and we think they are looking for a place to nest. The male (below) has a pink tinge to the seemingly white neck and belly, the female (above) has a striking tuft to the back of her head. we are so pleased that they have chosen Great Glen B&B for a possible nesting site

More great news. DEZ has Just given birth to twins. We have brought them out of the freezing temperatures for the night into a stable, hope they will be OK. will keep you posted and post some ahh pictures soon.

The famous Black Grouse is on the hunt for ladies again This spectacular bird which can be found not far from Great Glen B&B at the RSPB reserve at Corrimony has an amazing courtship display which is not to be missed. You can arrange guided trips with the RSPB or I can point you in the right direction.

A Huge celebration BBQ party marked the birthday of Great Glen B&B's first lady Sonia Whittington. All the family were present (probably won't happen again for some time) with lots of food, drink, party tricks and family squabbles/discussions. The highlight was a short sharp shower followed by a rainbow which landed in the garden. Everyone rushed for spades to dig for the crock of gold.

Neil Whittington was so impressive with the circus tricks that Billy Smart signed him on a 3 year contract. He starts on Monday.

Hannah (she's the blonde one) flies back to London on Monday to continue her modelling career.

What can we say about the birthday girl, well she has retired to the hot tub to revive those weary muscles, you know the ones you use for lifting glasses of bubbly.

New arrivals at Great Glen B&B Loch Ness

Two new arrivals to report here at Great Glen B&B. They are very large, very hairy, and look very dangerous (but they are harmless). They eat for Britain and leave big piles of Sh....t all over my lovely fields. What are they? Hairy cooos. The Red one is called Mhairi and the black on is called Eilidh Dubh.

This beast was the mainstay of the economy in the Scottish Highlands and Islands for many centuries. At a local level the house cow would give milk, cheese, butter, hair for weaving and (eventually) hide and leather for a host of uses. The beef from this animal is second to none.

By nature Highland cows are fairly placid animals and have a reputation to be good and attentive mothers. So if her calf is threatened she will be staunch in defending it. Her usual laid back approach to life can be cast aside in an instant as she moves quickly to use her horns, or kick out at any person or animal unwise enough to come between her and her offspring.

Snowed in at Loch Ness in the Great Glen

Heavy snow has been falling for days here at Great Glen B&B.

All our animals have been sheltering in our stables.

National news says that more snow has fallen in the highlands over the last few days than anywhere else in the world. wow!

Meet Dez One of Toki's girls. She would do any thing for a piece of toast.

She looks like she will be lambing for the first time in April . Fingers crossed.

TOKI arrives in his new home at Loch Ness

Toki the Shetland Ram has arrived at Great Glen B&B near Loch Ness to look after his girls, Irma, Jazz, Mary & Dez.

Toki has come all the way from the Shetland Isles and hopes to father some pedigree Shetland lambs this spring here at Great Glen B&B near Loch Ness.

We will introduce you to his girls in the weeks to come and keep you posted on their progress to lambing in April.
